49ers = Christian Love?

So it has come to this... Kurt motherfuckin Warner.... Maybe Singletary can recruit fellow public christian Warner. The thing is that it doesn't matter if we sign him as long as it causes a break in chemistry in AZ.

My issue here is that we should be going after Jay Cutler like mad men. He's young enough to build around and he has a great arm. Ok, maybe we don't want to give up draft picks to get anyone including a young proven QB... I cant believe I just wrote that. If this is the case then let's get Jeff Garcia or Byron Leftwich to come in and bring some veteran toughness to our QB situation.

The thing is that Warner needs such special conditions to thrive. Without our O-Line really really stepping it up he will struggle in SF. Of course my hope is that if we do sign him he'll take us to the next level, but I'm a bit skeptical of this square.

Warriors 133, Thunder 120

The Warriors put on quite a show last night as they gave Don Nelson his 1,300th win. Nelson is second on the "all time" wins list and is only trailing Lenny Wilkens by 32 games. The win came despite Stephen Jackson's erratic play. He hit some 3's but had some really bad turnovers.

Corey Maggette, on the other hand, played excellent. Soon as he came into the game he picked up a tough rebound, took it coast to coast and got to the line.

For all those people who question Maggette I have one thing to say. Watch a fucking Warriors game. What he does night in and night out is provide instant offense and rebounds. His focus on rebounding shows that he wants the team to win. His ability to mesh with the other guys this season shows he is not a selfish player that hogs the ball.

Another thing to point out is that I love Kevin Durant but, it is very hard to root for him since he is on the team that David Stern sold to OKC. The manner in which David Stern conducted himself was appalling and borderline criminal. Fuck Him. With that said I hope Kevin Durant moves to another team and continues being one of the best Ballers out there.

Singletary singles out Jason Smith

It look like despite what GM Scott McCloughan said about pass rush, Coach Singletary is really interested in Baylor's Jason Smith. Ofcourse I've already talked about the alma matter connection, but it seems to be more than just the Baylor connection that is apealing to Singletary. To qoute Singletary,
"I had a chance to meet Jason when I went down for the homecoming game. After the game, he came up and introduced himself and talked with him just a bit..."

"I am really proud of him. More so than anything else, I'm really impressed with him. I think the physicality that he has and I guess the focus. He is very serious about being good. It's important to him. Football is important to him. Preparation is important to him... It's impressive."

Jason Smith is definitely who Coach Singletary wants but I think it will depend on who is available. The more I read the more it seems that the Best Pick Available (BPA) will be employed. With that being said, if Jason Smith is available, that's who were picking.

49ers Combine Day 2

Niners GM Scott McCloughan implied today that we would be taking a Pass rusher in the first round.

Going into the draft, we always approach it with the mindset of taking the best player off the board. If it happens to also be a position of need, that’s great, but we never look past a good football player if they are on the board, because we aren’t thinking about just year one.

We’ve got to think about years two, three, four, five and so on. You can never have enough talented football players on the field.

In terms of positions of need, a lot can change during free agency, so we’ll wait and see before I start putting that out there. BUT, if there’s a can’t miss pass rusher in the draft and we are picking, I promise we’re taking him.

A little reading in between the lines hints that we will be favoring a pass rusher in the first round. My hope is that Brian Orakpo is available at #10. He is a beast and had some monster plays against teams that don't suck. All too often college teams stack stats against shitty opponents. (One reason why I don't watch College Football) Orakpo on the other hand played against tough opponents such as #1 OU. In fact here's some highlights.

49ers Focus on Offensive Lineman

Matt Maiocco is over at the NFL Combine and is reporting that the 49ers are looking at right tackles since Jonas Jennings is a fuckin BUM. Although the Draft is not deep at O-Line the top lineman are being highly sought after. Would the 49ers waste use the #10 Draft pick on a O-Lineman? The free agent pool of lineman is definitely deeper and I hope that's where they will turn.

Here's the one guy who may be our pick since Singletary is a Baylor Alum and knows this kid personally.

Jason Smith, Baylor: He returned for his senior season after earning a science of education degree last May. He said his intent to not only show he is the best Smith in the draft, but the best offensive tackle, period.

“I take a lot of pride in physically assaulting somebody (on the field),” Smith said.

Jason Smith (6-5, 309) promised he would be at training camp on time with whichever team that drafts him. The only adjustment he said he must make is that he did not get into a three-point stance much at Baylor.

Giants '09

The outlook after last season brought some promises. After all Tim Lincecum was named the NL Cy Young and some of the other young guys showed promise. Namely Pablo Sandoval. I loved his play at third but hes a natural 1B. Hence what we really need is a big time 3B. That means Manny Ramirez is not what the Giants need but someone like Joe Crede is.

The Giants have made contact with his camp and people are reporting that an offer had been made but it seems as if the two sides are not seeing eye to eye. I doubt the giants will sign anyone at this point, especially since Spring Training is starting.

Despite no big bat in the lineup the starting pitching rotation looks about as good as ever. 1-3 is solid as fuck. Tim Lincecum, Randy Johnson, Matt Cain is a savage trio. But the best part is that at 4-5 you have a nice choice of Barry Zito, Jonathan Sanchez, and Noah Lowry. Although I prefer Sanchez as a long to mid reliever, I think he'll get the 5th spot if Lowry can't recover from his injury. Speaking of Lowry he missed his first two chances to throw off a mound due to shoulder tightness.

"You take a year off, you are bound to have a little tightness,'' said Lowry, who has not pitched since August 2007."Of course I want to be out there, I've worked hard all offseason, day in and day out, to get to this point.

The main thing is (developing arm) strength, but at the same time I don't want to go out there and set myself back to a point where I might have to take a couple of days off.''

The competition for 5th starter is always a great one because that means youre set 1-4. The other big battle is at second base where Emmanuel Burris and Kevin Frandsen both are looking to get a spot. Last Season I thought Frandsen was gonna win the job from Ray Durham but he got injured and then was lost for basically the whole season.

We'll see how he fares this year deaspite Burris looking solid in his playing time last season. In fact if Frandsen can make any kind of impact with his bat this spring he may steal the show.

When it comes to watchability a baseball team needs Pitching and Defense and thats what it looks like we'll get this season.

Warriors 121, Lakers 129

Man we had this game until 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter. That's precisely when Trevor Ariza hit two 3's which turned the tide against the Warriors. At this point you could say this was a moral victory since it wasn't a blow out by the best team in the NBA.

The highlight of this game was definitely Anthony Randolph's Play. To Quote Lamar Odom,

“He’s got way more athleticism than I’ve ever had. That tip-dunk, my head was right here,” Odom said, pointing to his waist. “I would love to work out with him.”

“It’s like looking in the mirror a little. He’s also 6-11, he’s left-handed and he can put
the ball on the floor. He’s two times as athletic as I was at that age. He should set his goals high. He has All-Star potential, Hall of Fame potential, with that size, his ability to put the ball on the floor, he can shoot the three, he can pass. If he stays focused, the sky is the limit for him.”
Ofcourse Lamar was being a little nice since he was feeling pretty good after the game that he just won but it is still nice to hear coming from an opponent.
