49ers Combine Day 2

Niners GM Scott McCloughan implied today that we would be taking a Pass rusher in the first round.

Going into the draft, we always approach it with the mindset of taking the best player off the board. If it happens to also be a position of need, that’s great, but we never look past a good football player if they are on the board, because we aren’t thinking about just year one.

We’ve got to think about years two, three, four, five and so on. You can never have enough talented football players on the field.

In terms of positions of need, a lot can change during free agency, so we’ll wait and see before I start putting that out there. BUT, if there’s a can’t miss pass rusher in the draft and we are picking, I promise we’re taking him.

A little reading in between the lines hints that we will be favoring a pass rusher in the first round. My hope is that Brian Orakpo is available at #10. He is a beast and had some monster plays against teams that don't suck. All too often college teams stack stats against shitty opponents. (One reason why I don't watch College Football) Orakpo on the other hand played against tough opponents such as #1 OU. In fact here's some highlights.
