At this point many Bay Area Writers have been speculating on which QB the 49ers will bring to training camp.
Michael Vick's name has definitely been the most intriguing but with him being a convicted felon it may prove to be a PR nightmare.
As for AS (Alex Smith) he is expected to be cut then resigned at a much more budget friendly number. For those who question him lets look at what happened in his starts following his rookie year.
In his second year he showed great improvement since he had a decent coordinator with a 16-16 TD to INT ratio and a 74.8 quarterback rating. Our record was (7-9), pretty good. This was the year Frank Gore got the starting job as our primary running back and rushed for 1695 yards, and we also had Antonio Bryant.
The first game of the next year he lead us 86 yards down the field for a last second win. We started off 2-0. Then Alex Smith got his shoulder separated in the first quarter of the Seahawks game after a 320+ pound Rocky Bernard sat on it.
So he basically played 3 weeks healthy, because after that we all know that he was playing while his shoulder was still injured. And we know this because he came out and said that his shoulder WAS injured while he was playing and that the same injury caused him to sit out this whole season. This was of course despite Nolan's insistence that he was not hurt that bad.
Then Last year he had a chance to "win" the starting job despite being the nemesis of Mike Nolan. Also he had to compete against Mike Martz's puppy JT O'sullivan.
So what about Shaun Hill? He can look terrible. Remember first half of the Redskins game? And sometimes he looks legit. Remember the Second Half of the Redskins game? But all Coach Singletary has said about him is that he is the reason we won't bring Jeff Garcia back. I'm assuming that's because they play a similar rag tag style and both don't get respect. Garcia deserves way more respect than any team has ever given him.

That's just another pipe dream seeing as his resurgence from being benched may have tipped the balance in favor of keeping McNabb put. If only we kept Garcia years ago we wouldn't be in this mess. But that's what happens when ownership brings in a businessman GM rather than a football expert GM.
Fuck the Yorks.
